Get Around Alanya: Easy Airport Access, Buses & Road Trip Adventures

One of the best parts of living in Alanya is how easy it is to get around and explore—whether you're catching a flight home, taking a weekend adventure, or visiting nearby attractions. You're not isolated; you're connected to the Turkish Riviera and beyond with affordable, straightforward transportation options.

Gazipaşa Airport: Only 30 Minutes Away

Gazipaşa International Airport (GZP) is practically on your doorstep—just 30 minutes from central Alanya. This makes traveling home or exploring Europe incredibly convenient.

Your airport options:

• Direct transfer services — Book through your property manager or local taxi services for door-to-door pickup (roughly €25-40)
• Rental car — Pick up directly at the airport and explore at your own pace
• Shuttle vans — Scheduled services shared with other travelers, more economical
• Havas airport shuttle — Regular buses connecting airport to central Alanya (affordable and reliable)

Many expats fly out monthly to visit family, return frequently for long weekends, or hop to Istanbul for culture and shopping. With GZP so close, spontaneous travel is actually affordable and feasible.

Local Buses: Cheap, Reliable, & Quintessentially Turkish

Dolmuş (minibuses) and local buses connect Alanya neighborhoods and nearby towns. They're inexpensive (typically €1-2 per trip), reliable, and a genuinely local experience.

Where to go:

• Central bus station (Otogar) — Hub for longer-distance buses to Mersin, Adana, and beyond
• Local dolmuş routes — Connect neighborhoods to beach areas, markets, and nearby villages
• Intercity buses — Comfortable coaches serve Istanbul (12-hour overnight), Izmir, and other major cities at budget prices

You'll quickly learn your regular routes. The bus culture is social—vendors hop on with snacks, locals chat, and there's a genuine community feel. Expat residents often discover favorite tea vendors or bakeries through chance encounters on morning bus rides.

Road Trips: Exploring the Riviera & Beyond

With a rental car (€20-35/day from local agencies), the Turkish Riviera opens up. Alanya becomes your base for incredible exploring:

Weekend destinations:

• Phaselis & Kemer (60km north)—Ancient ruins, pine forests, Mediterranean views
• Demre & Myra (100km west)—St. Nicholas Church, Lycian tombs, island boat trips
• Side (70km west)—Expansive ruins, vibrant town, long beaches
• Adrasan (80km west)—Hidden coves, untouched beaches, mountain scenery
• Safranbolu (180km north)—UNESCO Ottoman village, mountain air, textile traditions

Driving in Turkey takes adjustment, but Turkish drivers are more forgiving than you'd think. Coastal roads are scenic and relatively straightforward. Many expat families make monthly road-trip adventures a part of their Alanya life.

Staying Connected: Regional Mobility & Visiting Family

Alanya's transport advantages aren't just about leaving—they're about staying connected.

Realistic travel scenarios:

• Weekend family visits — Kids can fly home from GZP for school breaks, stay with grandparents, and return
• Partner commutes — Some residents maintain work bases elsewhere and fly in monthly
• Group tours — Organized Riviera tours depart regularly from central Alanya
• Seasonal exploration — Spring hikes in the mountains, summer island boat trips, winter city breaks in Istanbul

The 30-minute airport connection removes the "isolated abroad" feeling that makes relocation difficult for families. You're genuinely in reach of home and adventure simultaneously.
